I am currently involved with a new production written and directed by Cara Albo; Edmonton the Musical.  We hit the stage July 21-24, six shows in 4 days.

About the Musical

It’s not your tradition musical.  If you took LIVE concert and MASHED it up with theatre this is what you would get.  It’s a live concert concept, with bands and musical groups that happen to follow a story that is going on. There will be 22 featured BANDS from Edmonton’s own music scene that tell a story with their song rhythms , lyrics and all out style.

The story – is about a guy.  Whom by accident ends up dating 5 women all at once.  All extremely different personalities and all of them don’t know about the other…gulp!

It highlights not only Edmonton Musicians but the community with key locations we all know and love about the city.

Jake is looking for love , but he has forgotten a very important step.  He must love himself first.  This musically driven play, is based off of 22 songs each from different local artists who drive the story with their unique lyrics.  We have all heard the typical love song, yet we all have our different interpretations of love.

This story takes 27 different looks on love through song and re-teaches us the important lesson that sometimes what we seek is right in front of us.

Well, the band side is cancelled.  The Spiritus Singers will still be doing their thing.  Come out and enjoy.

I am currently preparing for two concerts.  This season I am the lone bassoon in the band.  One this Friday (2010.11.26) with the Athabasca Community Band at the United Church in Athabasca, AB.   The other is a joint performance of the Spiritus Singers and the Athabasca Community Band during the period 2010.12.16 to 2010.12.19 at the Nancy Appleby Theatre in Athabasca, AB.

Twelve hours later we were done.   Wet and cold, but it was fun.

“A BOOKWORM’S TALE”

AN ORIGINAL TWO ACT MUSICAL BY EDMONTON’S CARA ALBO

Edmonton dynamo Cara Albo is hard at work on the finishing touches of her new production, a two act musical theatre production titled “A Bookworms Tale.”

According to Albo: “A Bookworm’s Tale” is about being the bookworm/nerd in high school and finally triumphing over the bully who stuffed you in a locker every day, or spread rumours about you so badly that you had to eat your lunch in the bathroom. It’s about stereotypes and clichés. Most importantly it’s about the struggle of who you are and who you’re meant to me…and it re-teaches us that important lesson of never judging a book by its cover.”

“A Bookworm’s Tale” is a collaboration between Concordia High School (Head of Drama: Franco Imbrogno) and St. Joseph High School ( Head of Drama: Tom Collins) , mixed with professional actors and a professional theatre tech. The production marks the first time Edmonton Catholic and Lutheran high schools have worked together.

Playwright Cara Albo is no stranger to the Edmonton artistic community. She’s an accomplished film producer and actress who is the Executive Producer for Skyline Motion Pictures and has starred in two feature films: Cats Cradle and Unfinished Business. Cara was awarded the “Best Soundtrack and Original Score” at the LA Festival for her work with Cats Cradle. In 2009 she released her debut recording “Embrace Me” which received airplay across Canada. Cara Albo is a member of the prestigious Sizzling 20 under 30 club, chosen by Edmontonian’s Magazine ( for more info go to www.caraalbo.com)

“A Bookworms Tale” is directed by Gilbert Allan. Known in the artistic community as an “actor’s director”, Gil himself has performed in 31 professional stage productions (nineteen leading characters), acted in close to 100 commercials, appeared in numerous television and video/film roles and has been in five feature films. “A Bookworms Tale” opens on April 28, 2010 and runs through May 1st, with six performances. Performances will be held in the Knights of Columbus Theatre inside St. Joseph’s High School, 10830-109 Street. Tickets are $10 each and are available at Tix On The Square and at the door.
